Verl "Buck" Bulkley, 72, of Grants Pass died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Chapel of the Valley-L.B. Hall Funeral Home, with Sandi Richard', chaplain, conducting. Committal will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
He was born Aug. 7, 1935, in Springville, Utah, to Samuel Lloyd Bulkley and Beulah Bulkley. After moving to California, he graduated from Bell High School in Maywood, Calif., in January 1953. In September 1954, he joined the Army and was sent to Germany as a cook and a lifeguard. After his discharge from the military, he joined the Vernon, Calif., fire department, and married Linda Foley, who died in 1998. They bought a house and settled in Paramount, Calif.
In 1989, he retired as a fire department captain and he and his wife moved to Grants Pass, where they enjoyed watching deer and working on their home. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A few years after the death of his wife, he reconnected with a friend, Janice Schleiden, and, for the past seven years they traveled extensively and took many cruises to the Caribbean Islands, Canada, Australia and Hawaii.
Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Murray of Lompoc, Calif., and Shannon Bautista of Long Beach, Calif.; a brother, Samuel Bulkley of Grants Pass; two sisters, Linda Liston of Cerritos, Calif., and Ladean Rezmerski of Hemet, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
