Doris graduated from Creston High School. On November 11, 1936, Doris married Elmer Oeltjen in Creston. They lived on a farm north of Creston until Elmer passed away in 1966. Doris moved to Norfolk and worked as a secretary at the Norfolk Jr. College until her retirement. Doris enjoyed traveling and Nebraska football.
