MAW, Frank Johnston
Peacefully, at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, on Wednesday, October 25, 2000, in his 88th year. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lillian; his children and childrenin-law, Frank and Wendy Maw, Diane and Jack Turpin; granddaughters, Christine Maw and her husband Sandy Stephens, Laurie Maw, Colleen Turpin and Joanne Turpin; and great-granddaughter Chloe Stephens. Frank was born and grew up in Toronto where he had a long and rewarding career as a teacher and school principal in Leaside and North York. Frank and Lillian enjoyed 30 happy years of retirement with wonderful family and friends. You will be forever missed by your family. Appreciative thanks to the staff at the Royal Vic. The family welcomes friends to attend a Memorial Service at the Humphrey Funeral HomeA.W. Miles Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue on Saturday, November 4 at 11 o'clock. Obituary:
William (Bill) Bateman Maw, resident at Grand Lodge. Born September 3, 1929 at Toronto General Hospital went to be with his Saviour Jesus Christ, and with his parents Eileen and Harold Bateman Maw on June 6, 2009. He leaves behind his younger brother John, sister-in-law Margaret, 3 nieces (Deborah, Wendy, Elizabeth), 3 nephews (Robert, Gregory, Stephen), and cousins Marie Dandy, Pat Squire, Margie Burkholder, Diane Chappel, Marilyn Brooks, Danny Simmer. Even though Bill went through his life with limitations created at birth, his interests included classical music, sports, local events, live theatre, fishing, antique cars. He impacted many because he had a caring and prayerful heart. He was a 'lone-star' but was able to enjoy such things as Canadian Expo in B.C., hockey week-ends in Montreal, and trips to the Stratford Festival. On the death of his parents he joined his brother John in Thunder Bay. Many knew Bill by sight as he enjoyed his monthly bus pass. We called the Mainline bus "Bill's Tour Bus". The personal care many gave at Grandview Lodge these past ten years was much appreciated by Bill and his family. Thanks to attending physicians, Dr. C. Dodick, Dr. R. Johnson, Dr. H.W. Hamilton, Dr. A Skehan, Dr. S. Gupta. Because of his outgoing, cheerful nature Bill will be missed by many. A memorial service will be held in the auditorium at Grandview Lodge on Thursday, June 11 at 1:30. All will be welcome who had any contact with Bill. A buffet luncheon will be served after the memorial service. Also a memorial service will be held in Toronto at Jarvis St. Baptist Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers please give to Grandview Lodge Gardenview Dining Improvements for the benefit of the residents, or a charity of your choice, in remembrance of Bill.

John Charles Maw transitioned peacefully to his eternal home on 2 March 2011 following a lengthy illness, at St Joseph's Hospital, Thunder Bay. Born the second son to Harold Bateman Maw and Eileen Maw in Toronto on July 12, 1934, John was the younger brother to William Bateman Maw (1929 - 2009) with whom he shared a strong bond, and for whom he advocated. John and the love of his life, Margaret (nee Bouskill), were married on a sunny day in Toronto, 570 months ago. John marked the 17th of every month of their marriage in unique ways. They were parents to daughters Deborah, Wendy (Brian) and Elizabeth and to sons Robert (Margaret), Gregory, and Stephen (Valerie). John is survived by his wife, six children, ten grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, two brothers-in-law and their wives - Charles and Barbara Bouskill of Winnipeg and Wallis and Rebecca Bouskill of Niagara-on-the-Lake - as well as numerous cousins (particularly in southern Ontario), nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. John was granted a B.A.Sc. in Engineering (Physics) by the University of Toronto, majoring in electronics. Following graduation he designed and installed sound systems, and subsequently was granted specialist teaching certification by the Ontario College of Education. During the next 20 years John taught Mathematics and Physics at high schools in Atikokan, Kingston, Iroquois Falls, Thunder Bay, and Peterborough. Following his career as a teacher, John was employed by Westclox and seconded to IBM as a module maker supervisor. He became registered as a Professional Engineer and ultimately was the Plant Engineer for Westclox in Peterborough. He later taught at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough for a brief period of time prior to moving back to Thunder Bay. Subsequently, John became an entrepreneur. He, together with his wife Margaret, brought pizza by the slice to Thunder Bay at Mrs. Vanelli's in the Intercity Shopping Center. He was a successful owner/operator and enjoyed teaching his employees the running of the business. John enjoyed and shared many interests - photography, music, antique cars, financial investment, reading about health issues, skiing, skating, swimming, camping, hiking, exploring, fishing, canoeing, and cooking as a volunteer at Shelter House. John had an adventurous spirit and will be missed by the many people that he befriended and encouraged. He was big on providing experiences and adventures for others and making the ordinary special. John was a patient, quietly supportive person who invested in people. He often stopped for anyone in distress or trouble on the road of life. In John's memory, a "helping hand" to the cause of one's choice, or a donation to a charity of one's choice, would be most appreciated. Hug a loved one. "Pay it forward". Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service in John's honour at 3:00 pm on Monday, 7 March 2011, at the Grassroots Church, 1250 Balmoral St., Thunder Bay, Pastor Chris Pacholczak officiating.
