    A transcription of the will of James's brother, William Maw:

    In the name of God Amen I William Maw of Thornton in Pickering Lyth being of perfect memory and understanding do ordain my Last Will as follows. First I Recommend my Soul to God and my Body to the Ground to be buried in the burial Ground belonging the Quakers meeting at Pickering at the Discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned. Secondly I Give to my Brother Robert Maw half a Crown, to Elizabeth the wife of my Brother James Maw ten pounds and to the three children of the said James and Elizabeth Maw, John Robert & Ann, the sum of forty shillings each, and my Will is that if any of the said children shall die before the age of Twenty one years then the part of such child or children shall be Given to the survivors share and share alike. Lastly I appoint my Brother James Maw aforesaid and Margaret the wife of Christopher Smales Joint Executors of this my last Will in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this eighteenth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and forty eight.
