WESLEY COLLEGE, Glossop road.— This large and beautiful building was erected in the years 1836-7-8, at a cost of upwards of £30,000, by the Wealeyan Methodists, and was opened in 1838, as the Wesleyan Proprietary Grammar School. In the year 1844, it became a college of the University of London, under the title of "Wesley College." It furnishes accommodation for about 200 students and pupils, and is conducted by a governor, head-master, and nineteen other masters and professors. It was established to give a first-class education to the sons of the wealthier classes among the Wesleyan Methodists, in connexion with instruction in the doctrines and principles of Christianity, as held by that church. I have a death and burial for Thomas Marsden, b. Q4 1857 found in the burials at All Saint's Church, Ecclesall, Sheffield

So I'm sorry but your marriage to Mary Jane Stork looks wrong. I had a quick look on Ancestry and the Thomas who married Mary J and had a child Thomas in 1880 is a joiner.

I have a couple of extra children, but unfortunately they died young as well, so the only child of Milcah Maw and Jonathan Marsden to have a family was Henry James, my children's 3x great grandfather. He seemed similarly unlucky and only one of his children appears to have had a family.

I attach a descendant report from Jonathan Marsden for the now deceased generations of my ex-husband's family. I hope this will be of interest to you.

Comments: Hello I am a descendent of one of the Maw Family that Came to Canada Other than my direct lineage from Jacob and Susannah (Smith) Maw my g-g-g grandparents and before Thomas and Sarah(Sanderson)Maw my g-g-g-g grandparents and so on back to Thomas Maw and wife Dorothy maiden name unknown I could be of some help to you concerning the descendents of Jacob and Susannah that came to Canada ;) I grew up in Blenheim Ontario near McKay's Corners which is located in between Howard and Harwich Townships which are pretty close in Fact some of the Maws lived on The Howard side and some on the Harwich side also Some in Bothwell ontario also near where I grew up I am now in Windsor Ontario Canada which is still only about an hour away Most of my Holmes Family still live in Blenheim Chatham and Bothwell pretty much in the Raleigh Howard and Harwich Townships I did not find my G-G grandma Mary on your site but All of her Canadian brothers and sisters are on your site ;0 The earli! est pioneers of McKays were the Maws Clarke Holmes Galbraiths and McKays Corners which was known as simply Harwich before Alexander McKay moved his business to the corners in 1840s All these families were there in the 1850s and I am in one way or another related to All of them through my Holmes/Maw lineage I see A Nancy Maw on your site Born 1850 but I Have not found a Nancy yet here in Canada. I do have ALL the others in my family history Milcah Jacob and Thomas you have a blank Maw in the family which could be Thomas and also your Nancy could be my G-G grandma Mary she was born January 2nd 1852 and her birthplace unknown but parents were from Lancanshire England ;) I have curiously not done a whole lot of research on my Maw family line since starting my Children's family research in 1992 when my oldest child was born. He started some combo Saw and Grist Mills there,Sadly many mishaps happened to the Holmes Family;( Jabez Himself was killed by a board that flew from a saw and one of his sons was killed when a log rolled on him When Henr! y was young he fell in love and married Mary Maw who also in later years owned and operated the popular corner store They had 9 children their first being named after her grandmother Sarah I have several documents and Info from My extensive research on my Children's lines go back to the 1600s of course I can't do as we ALL know without the help of other genealogists and cousins ;)I have boxes and boxes of info pictures and books of ALL most of their lines Long story short we can help each other I am hoping that the only reason you dont have ALL the info on our Canadian Maw family is because you are from England. Beloved wife of the late Gordon Douglas Bedford (1991). Dear mother of Elizabeth DeHoey, R.R. #3, Kent Bridge and her husband the late Edward DeHoey (1999). Also pre-deceased by one son Kenneth Bedford (2003). Mother-in-law of Helen Bedford, RR #4, Chatham. Grandmother of Mary Ann Myers (Warren); Janice Havens (Rob); Bonnie Gotelaer (Peter); David DeHoey (Louise Kelly); Virginia Laprise (Claud); Jennifer Masse (Donat) and Amanda Bedford. Great Grandmother of Matthew, Kristen, Kyle, Jillian, Rebecca, Valerie, Jamie, and Aaren. Sister of the late Frank Holmes and two infant brothers. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Passed away peacefully at Chatham Kent Health Alliance. Beloved spouse of Janet Gilbert. Father of Richard (Shelley) Holmes, Rodney Holmes and Tracey Johnson, stepfather to Bryce (Vanessa) McMahon and Evan (Melissa) McMahon, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at The Moose Lodge in Chatham, on May 5th from 1pm-4pm. Donations may be made in his name to an animal rescue of your choice.
