Published in Idaho Statesman on October 4, 2013 ---------------- Chester "Chet" Warren Lane 1925 ~ 2013 Chester "Chet" Warren Lane was born in Ventura, California on September 23, 1925, the son of Melvin and Ruby Lane. His family moved to Meridian, Idaho in 1928. Chet graduated from Meridian High School in 1943. He married Alberta Beckman and they raised five children. They later divorced. He joined the Army in 1944, after active duty he joined the Army Reserves, serving in the 321st Engineers Battalion. He retired after 31 years of services as Sgt. Major. He married Rebecca Beck in 1973. They celebrated their 40th anniversary on September 26, 2013. Chet was a rural mail carrier in Boise for 34 years. After his retirement from the Post Office, He drove truck for Idaho Pipe & Steel out of Buhl, Idaho. He also worked several years for Nampa Tractor Salvage. He bought a combine and worked summers combining grain in the valley. Chet went to auction school in Iowa and did antique farm and machinery auctions in Oregon and Washington. When he really retired he and Becky built a home in Nampa, ID. They bought a motor home and traveled to Arizona in the winter, enjoying the snowbird life. Chet raced cars at the Old Meridian Speedway dirt track. He liked to watch NASCAR, golf with family and friends, visit and have lunch at the Nampa Senior Center, especially on "pork chop" day. He had a hobby of collecting toy farm tractors and restoring pedal tractors. He belonged to the American Legion, Elks, DAV and the Eagles. He is survived by his wife Becky, four children, Allan Lane of Nampa, Marla Temple (Daryl) of Caldwell, Anita Andrews of Silverton, Ore., Valerie Corley (Lance) of Pendleton, Ore., his brother Raymond Lane of Valley Center, California. He has 14 grandkids, 25 great grandkids and 3 great, great grandkids. He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren Tracy and A.J. Lane and his son Gary Lane, who passes away in April this year. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, October 12, 2013 from noon to 1:30 at the Elks Lodge in Nampa. The family would like to say a big "Thank You" to Karcher Estates and Legacy Hospice for all the help and kindness they gave during this time. Donations can be made to Nampa Senior Center.
