Note that Findagrave lists him as William T. Maw. No headstone picture so far and additional information is based on a clolumn in the Kimberley Daily Bulletin.
Birth date corresponds with William James, birth place is different but his stepmother and half brother are buried in same cemetery.
Can only conclude that some how the T should have been a J ....
