Notes - John Cook b.1874 did not go out to Australia with the rest of the Cook family: he and his wife Isabella did follow later, though, after the birth of Janet (Jessie). According to grandchildren Alison Holloway and Roberta Prime, David and Jessie recalled a house with 'sacking' walls, snakes under the floors, and koala pets. Bella, however, grew homesick, and the family returned to Buckhaven.
At the 1901 census John and Bella, with David (5), were living with Bella's parents George Barker (57, colaminer hewer) and Jessie (57) at 22 Links, Buckhaven. There is no mention of young Jessie, who would have been 3. She had not died, for in 1920 she married Reginald John Minson from Richmond, Surrey, at the Bowling Green Hall in Methil. They later moved to Southend, where John b.1874 died in 1958.
