Notes - Hi Johan and Judy
As you might have realised, Furnie is not part of my primary research and is not registered with the Guild as a variant. In fact I only record it if I bump into it, so to speak. When I obtained a copy of the will of my 3xgg, I was surprised to find that he was John Fernyhough also known as John Ferney.
It helped me to find his marriage as he married as Ferney and the first two children were baptised as such, but then the remaining children were baptised in the same church as Fernyhough. But now I had a problem. There were many Ferney references, but I discovered that a large proportion had origins in Ireland. So I decided to collect only those in the areas where Fernyhoughs had been or still were. Fernie came predominantly from Scotland and Furnie may be likewise. Even Harvey is often spelt Harvie in Scotland.
As a result of all this, my knowledge of the Furnie line is negligible.
I have the same information as you do, for the marriage of John and Rosina and for their four children. But I do have a birth for John Furnie which was registered in the 1st quarter of 1923 in the St Pancras district. His mother's maiden name was Clarke, but I have no further information and there would appear to be no further children. I cannot find a marriage either.
Other details I have are:
Thomas Fernehough married Ellionor Maw on 8 June 1682 in the parish church of Gratwich in Staffordshire. (Parish Register entry for the 17th century) Telephone directory of 1989 for the Burton on Trent, Tamworth district contains two entries for Maw:
J Maw, 33 Bloomfield Way, Tamworth - Tamworth 67458 M A Maw, 14 Laburnum Rd, Newhall - Burton 214456
Sorry I cannot be any more helpful than this.
Best wishes
Barbara Harvey
