- Hello again,
I just did a little more searching and found the attached marriage record on
Family Search. It seems very likely that it is the right one even though there are
several mistakes. Please note that it states who Mark's parents were.
The marriage date that I gave you earlier was from a list of Arlidge marriages
that my grandfather recorded many years ago. Although all the rest of them
have proved accurate, this one could be wrong.
Should you ever find descendants of Florence and Mark Maw, I would be interested
in learning of any information they might have on this couple, or the Arlidge family.
Cheers,
Bob Arlidge

Notes - Hello again,
Sorry I've been so long in responding.
The information that I have regarding Florence Eleanor Arlidge is basic, at best.
However, it will provide some clues to her descendants and ancestors.
Florence was born Oct 08, 1863 in the village of Bloxham, Oxfordshire. This event was
registered in the nearby town of Banbury, Oxfordshire. She was the sixth child born to
this family - there would eventually be 14 children.
Her parents were Christopher Churchill Arlidge (1829 - 1918) who was a brick maker and his wife, Isabella Mary Connibeer aka Conybeare (1834 - 1906). Both die at Rochester, New York.
Although I don't have a picture of Florence, I've attached a picture of her parents with one of their daughters.
In 1870, Christopher brought his family to Canada aboard the ship 'Lake Erie'. The passenger list shows her as 'Florence Alige - 6 years old'. Once in Canada, they settled in Yorkville which was then a small village just north of Toronto. The youngest child died there of Diphtheria.
The census of 1881 shows Christopher's family living in Blenheim, Oxford North, Ontario and Florence is 17 years of age. By this time, two of Florence's older sisters have been married and there are 11 other children listed there.
Sometime in the late 1880s, Florence's parents and several of her siblings move to Rochester, New York.
Florence marries Mark Maw Sept. 29, 1887 and appears to remain in Canada as several children are born in the Toronto area over the next few years;
- Thomas Garfield Maw b. Feb 27, 1888 at Toronto, Ontario
- Walter Albert Maw b. May 03, 1890 at York, Ontario
- Florence Vivian Maw b. Sept 01, 1896 at West Toronto Junction, Ontario
Two other children are very likely hers that were found on Family Search. In both cases, the surname was probably recorded incorrectly or mis-transcribed from the originals. The surname 'Arlidge' is very rare in Canada and I'm related to all of them.
- Alma Roxana Maro b. Jan 29, 1903 at Toronto - father Mark Maro, mother Florence E. Arlidge
- Maxwell Arlidge Mair b. April 17, 1894 at York, Ontario - father Mark Mair, mother Florence E. Arlidge
The only other fact I have is that Florence moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1916.
I hope the above is of some help to you,
Bob Arlidge
