Notes - Notes from information provided by Joan Tonks, nee Senior.
Ethel Amelia's mother died in childbirth when my mother was 8 years old. I don't know if the baby survived. She left school at the age of 13 and went into domestic service. I don't know where she went or how old she was at the time. I know at some time she was employed by a Dr Dixon, somewhere in Headingley, Leeds. She met Thomas William Senior when she was working as a maid, for the manager of Barclays Bank, Market Place, Pontefract. TW Senior and Sons builders were doing some alterations of the premises and my father was doing the plastering.
During the 1st World War, she worked at a munitions factory in Leeds. At this time she lived in lodgings in Featherstone and this is where she and my father lived when he came out of the army.
Her brothers were called Nowell and Ned (short for Edward). They were both miners at Featherstone and played cornets in the colliery silver band. They entered competitions as part of the band and because they were such good players they were offered jobs at a woollen mill at Huddersfield, so they could play for them. Uncle Nowell lived at Clayton West, near Huddersfield, and died there sometime in the 1960s, I think. I know that he married twice in his lifetime, and there was a daughter to his first wife, but we was a Down's syndrome child. There was another daughter called Mildred.
I think Uncle Ned moved to Doncaster. I remember a cousin Jessie coming to see my mother. She was Mrs Flewitt, 163 Coppice Road, Highfields Doncaster but she died about 15 years ago. I know she had a daughter but I don't know her name. I have found an address in an old diary of my mother's and I think it may be hers, but I am not sure. Mrs Brumble, 27 Green Lane, Carcroft, Doncaster. [5]
