- Comments (The Maw Family): Your family website contains a reference to Robert George Holmes. From the information in your document it is evident that this is my great uncle. After his time in the army, he joined he South African police force, and was the first policeman to be murdered in South Africa. If you are interested, I can supply all your missing information on this gentleman including a photograph of his headstone. I also have photographs of his funeral procession which was very long. The funeral oration was given by General Smuts.
