65239 You ask about the Cromptons and my mother's background. As you know I am more interested in that side of the family. I have clearer recollections of some of them and quite a lot of birth, marriage and death certificates (b.m.d.'s!) and some old wills. This info would be useful in tracing Cromptons but as far as the Maw connection is concerned I can give you my mother's details--so here goes.
Born 1901in Bury, younger daughter of John Wood (solicitor) and Flora Wood of Blackpool, married Henry Maw (hospital Administrator, C.E.O. Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh) in 1925 and produced us lot. Her mother was Flora Crompton ( m. John Wood) who was the daughter of Alfred Crompton ( Apothecary) and Elizabeth Crompton nee Wolstenholme of Bury. She had two brothers-- W.W. Crompton (no given name recorded but I think William) Solicitor of Bury and Alfred Crompton of Hinderwell,Yorks ( Rev.curate) who was the famous Nunc who returned to England in 1897 and took holy orders after making his pile in India. Incidently one of my memories of him was in his Rolls Royce at Runswick Bay. I have his will which shows that on his death in 1933 he left £36,000, which in today's terms, depending whether one adds one or two noughts, was quite a lot of money!!
Wood, Marjory MBE (I529)

65240 You may be able to glean additional details from the original register entry so be sure to view the image attached to each transcript.

The parish registers held at Portsmouth History Centre pertain to Church of England parishes in the deaneries of Portsmouth, Gosport, Fareham, and Havant. The records span from the 16th century to present day; however, due to privacy concerns, there is a 100-year cut-off on publishing parish records.
