53560 Patricia Louise (Boyle) Maw
1925 - 2012
On Thursday January 5, 2012, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away.
Pat was the oldest of two daughters born to Lowell and Ethel Boyle in Ogden, Utah.

She was preceded in death by her parents, younger sister Barbara Fitzgerald and her husband Blain H. Maw.

Pat was a 1942 graduate of Ogden High School. She also attended Weber College and was employed as a clerk and elevator operator with Boyle Furniture Co., while waiting for Blain to return from Merchant Marine service in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

Pat was a wonderful wife and mother. She took great pride in maintaining her home and raising her family, working alongside Blain either gardening in the yard or harvesting fruit from the family orchard to sell. She was an avid bridge player and knitter who could quickly design and complete a fashionable sweater for any occasion.
Pat also loved to travel and enjoyed taking long vacations with Blain on cruises or to visit her boys wherever we happened to live. A devoted football fan, Pat loved watching any game, either in person or on TV and particularly enjoyed watching local college teams compete. She took an active leadership in Ogden High School's Alumni Association planning class reunions and special projects benefiting both former classmates and current Ogden High students alike.

Patricia is survived by three sons, Scott (Lynette, Germantown, TN), Doug (Margo, Pleasant View, UT), and Whitney (Annette, Las Vegas, NV) as well as nine grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

She lived a long, happy, fulfilling life. We love you Pat. We will miss you tremendously but look forward to being together again.

A viewing will be held Sunday January 8, 2012 from 6p.m. to 8 p.m. and memorial services will be conducted Monday, January 9 at 11:00am at Leavitt's Mortuary and Memorial Park, 836 36th St. Ogden, UT.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.leavittsmortuary.com

Family Name History
The English family name Grasby is classified as being of habitation origin. Habitation names are those family names which are derived from either the location of the place of residence of the initial bearer, or from the name of the town or village from whence he hailed. In this instance, the surname Grasby can be traced to the place name so-called located in Lincolnshire, England.

" In Grasby, Ulfekill had two carcurates of land taxable. Land for four ploughs(?) Value before 1066, sixty shillings" (Domesday Book 1086)

The above quote taken from the Domesday Book, drawn up by the Normans in the wake of the Conquest of 1066 in order to evaluate the extent and value of England for taxation purposes, is evidence of the occurrence of this place name in early records.
It was recorded as Grosebi in 1086 and would appear to be derived from the Old Scandinavian elements "grjot" meaning "gravelly" and "by" meaning "enclosure, settlement". Thus the surname signifies a "local of Grasby". Variants of the surname Grasby include Grassby.
One of the earliest written references to the surname Grasby or to its variant include Hugh de Gresby who is recorded in the Transcripts of Charters relating to Charter Houses while Aelfward de Grassebi is recorded in the Pipe Rolls of Yorkshire in 1190. Later records include Adam de Grossebi who is listed in the Assize Rolls of Lincolnshire in 1219.

53573 Peter Burt, a collier in Coaltown of Wemyss, was the son b.1804 of John Burt and Barbara Dunsire [Ann's aunt, m. 11 December 1801], and thus his wife's cousin, and also brother of David Burt b.1803 who married their cousin Isobel Dunsire [b.1800 to John Dunsire and Christian Buchan] in 1825.
In 1841, according to census data, Peter Dunsire [35] and Agnes Nicol [81] were living with Peter Burt [36] and Ann Burt [36] in West Coaltown. Peter Dunsire would be Ann's brother b. 25 January 1807, and Agnes Nicol their mother, b. 7 March 1762, despite arithmetical discrepancies in the given ages. There is hardly any doubt that we are seeing an unmarried Peter Dunsire living with his mother and his married sister.
