Obituary Feb 1924.
Mr T W Senior

Death and Funeral of a Much Esteemed Resident

It is with deep regret that we report the death, which occurred on
Saturday night, of Mr Thomas Wood Senior, plasterer, of Walkergate,
Pontefract.

Deceased, who was 60 years of age, represented the fifth generation of a
Leeds family of plasterers, but when he was 27 he forsook Leeds in
favour of Pontefract and has carried on a flourishing business with
headquarters in Walkergate ever since.

His quiet, unassuming manner, and his genial nature caused him to be
held in high esteem everywhere he went, and he was never known to have a
cross or unsympathetic word for anyone.

During the time he was at Leeds he was for nine or ten years secretary
of a branch of the Ancient Order of Oddfellows.

In politics he was a Liberal, but on account of persistent ill health he
never took up much active work for the cause. Since he came to
Pontefarct he has been a regular attender at All Saints Church.

He never really complained of any trouble until about a fortnight before
Christmas, and after he had been attended by Dr Osmond for a while, Dr
Braithwaite of Leeds was called in and he advised an operation. The was
performed during January, but the patient's condition did not improve,
and he passed away as stated.

He leaves a widow -- who is well known in Liberal circles -- and five
sons and four daughters.

The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Pontefract
cemetery, the Rev A G Shipley (vicar of All Saints) officiating.

The chief mourners were:-- The widow, Mr T W Senior, Mr & Mrs John
Senior, Mr and Mrs W Maw, Misses Carrie, Louie and Nelly Senior, and
Messrs Edward, Arthur and Richard Senior, sons, daughters, etc; Mrs
Witty (Garforth), and Mrs Bold; Mr & Mrs Melemby, Mrs Hall, Mr E Senior,
Mr H Senior and Mr J Senior (all of Leeds), brothers, sisters, etc; Mr
Mitchell (Castleford), Mrs Smith (Wyke), Mr Hamer (Brighouse) and Mr and
Mrs Mitchell (Pontefract), brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, etc; and Mrs
Brown, Mr and Mrs G Stewart and Mr J Blackburn.

Amongst the many others present were a number of members of the Master
Builders Association -- Messrs G Ward, jun, H Walker, T Lodge, J Brown,
W Horner, H Taylor, A Taylor, W Barber, P Woodcock, R W Abbott, C L
Jackson, J Shaw, S Harrison, H Burton, J Clarke, J W Pearson, G Barff
and G Stewart (all of Pontefract), and J H Stanhope and A Link
(Knottingley).

There were wreaths and floral tributes from:-- the Widow; The Children
at Home; Lilian and John, Willie and Ethel; Mr and Mrs W Maw; Mr
Mitchell (Castleford); Mr and Mrs Mitchell (Pontefract); Mr and Mrs
Ruddlesden (Pontefract); Mr and Mrs G Stewart; Mr and Mrs F Tree
(Ferrybridge); Mr Hamer; the Pontefract Master Builders' Association; Mr
and Mrs T Mitchell; Mrs Smith and family (Bradford); and "A few Liberal
Friends". Mr W Pease of Old Church had charge of the funeral
arrangements.

2312 Certificates: Death

Cyril (her brother) says that they were born and brought up in 9 Nelson St, Southampton.

Geoff told Roger that both Kathleen and Cyril died from muscular dystrophy. As Roger was worried about this, we sent for her death certificate. The causes of death were;
Ia Bronchopenumonia
Ib Cerebro vascular accident (ie: stroke)
II Spino-muscular atrophy.
So it wasn't muscular dystrophy although it is obvious why Geoff thought it was. She was always very thin, like her mother. Both of them had extremely thin legs, with little muscle on them, which got even thinner. Kathleen never walked anywhere or did any sort of exercise in her last few years.
