| 1756 | Betty Boness 1928 - 2020 Our mother passed away at the age of 92 years old on October 22, 2020. As she wished, she was home and surrounded by her family as she departed to her heavenly home. Betty Jean (Hess) Boness was born on September 9, 1928 in Kankakee, Illinois. She was the ninth of ten children, born to William and Sarah (Jeanette) Hess. She was educated at St. Paul Lutheran Parochial School until eighth grade and graduated from Kankakee High School. She worked several jobs while in high school. As a teenager, she enjoyed roller skating and dancing, especially at the same time. She met her husband, Francis Boness, the love of her life, at his uncle's farm in Herscher, IL. He was working on the farm for the summer and she was there to detassle corn. They fell in love and were married on May 23, 1953 in Kankakee, IL shortly after he completed Air Force Officer Training School. Upon completion of Navigator's training, Francis was assigned to Johnson, AFB Japan while Betty returned to her parent's home to await the birth of their first child, Michael. Michael was four months old when they packed up and spent two weeks on a converted troop transport sailing with hundreds of other wives and children to Japan who were traveling to join their husbands. Their second child, Barbara, was born in Japan. After two years they returned to the States. Moving between bases in Sacramento, CA and Winter Haven, FL, they settled in Maine at Loring Air Force Base where their third child, Kevin, was born. They remained there for a year and a half when they once again packed up and moved halfway across the country to Austin, TX where Francis was stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base. While in Austin the next four children were born, (Patricia, Mary, and twins, Todd and Thomas). They were in Austin for seven years and then were stationed in Glasgow, MT. While in Montana, out of necessity, Betty finally broke down and learned to drive at the age of 38 because Francis was stationed overseas in Guam the first winter and Thailand the second winter. Getting her seven children to church was the driving force behind this decision as they lived twenty miles away. Their final assignment was in Abilene, TX. After Francis retired, they returned to his hometown of Kenosha, WI. Betty and Francis joined Messiah Lutheran Church in Kenosha and were very active in their church. Over the years, Betty was involved in the women's Wednesday morning Bible study group, the Alter Guild, choir, and was the secretary/treasurer of the AAL branch. Betty took a job with a local physician (Dr. Pamukcu) as his office manager and medical assistant. She retired from this position after 17 years. She lost her love, Francis, in 1984 and continued managing and supporting her family alone. Upon her retirement, Betty joined the St. Catherine's Hospital Volunteer Auxiliary and worked in the coffee shop on a regular basis. Retirement included many trips to see her children and grandchildren scattered across the United States. These trips often revolved around births, baptisms, graduations and weddings. Her 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren always treasured their time with her even though the visits were always too short. The influence of her love and dedication to her family will continue through the generations. She was truly a remarkable, very loving, and well-loved mother, wife and friend. She will be missed beyond measure. She is survived by her children, Michael (Dorothy) Boness, Barbara (Rickie– deceased) Miller, Kevin (Susan) Boness, Patricia Boness, Mary (Jonathan) Stout, Todd (Theresa) Boness, Thomas Boness, one brother, Joseph Hess and his wife Betty Hess. Betty was preceded in death by 8 siblings and their spouses, William (Leilith) Hess, Vivian (William) Odette, Raymond (Dorothy) Hess, Frances (William) Guertin, Irene (Marvin) Hayhurst, Melvin (Marie) Hess and Norma (Harry) Montgomery. Funeral services honoring Betty's life will be held privately. Interment will be held in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers or memorials, our mother would have encouraged you to express your love and support to those around you. A special thank you to Patty, whose loving care allowed our mom to remain in her home until her passing. And to Donna Primuth whose friendship was treasured by Betty. | 1768 | Biographical Sketch, "Past and Present of Iroquois County, Illinois," by J. W. Kern (S. J. Clarke Publishing Co., Chicago, 1907), p. 639: CHARLES C. BROCK Charles C. Brock is a general farmer, devoting his time and energies to the cultivation of two hundred acres of land on sections 32 and 33, Chebanse township, and in addition to tilling the fields he makes a specialty of the raising of Poland China hogs. He is a son of Samuel and Sarah (Brock) Brock, who came from England to the United States in 1854 and settled at Plainfield, Will county, Illinois, where they remained until 1870. In that year they came to Chebanse township, Iroquois county, and followed farming until 1889, the father giving his attention to general agricultural pursuits until he put aside business cares altogether. He is now living retired in Clifton. The family numbered six children, of whom Charles C. is the third in order of birth, the record being as follows: William F., a resident of Clifton; George M., who is mayor of Clifton and also deputy sheriff of the county; Charles C.; Alfred S.; Richard H.; and Edith, the wife of Charles Trimble, who is principal of the schools at Clifton. The birth of Charles C. Brock occurred in Plainfield, Will county, Illinois, on the 11th of November, 1859, and at the usual age he entered the public schools, where he acquired his education. He was reared to the occupation of farming and throughout almost his entire life has followed that pursuit. At one time he engaged quite extensively in shipping stock but in more recent years has given up that business and now devotes his undivided attention to the operation of the farm, which he has brought under a high state of cultivation, so that he annually gathers therefrom rich and abundant harvests. He is practical in his methods, systematic in all that he does and displays an aptitude for successful management that is manifest in the prosperity that has attended him. Aside from the tilling of the soil he now makes a specialty of the raising of Poland China hogs. Mr. Brock was happily married on the 10th of February, 1903, at Clifton, the lady of his choice being Miss Adda E. Bosley, and unto them has been born a daughter, Edith E. Mr. Brock is recognized as a stalwart advocate of republican principles and in 1892 he served as marshal of Clifton. He attends and supports several different local churches and is interested in general improvement and upbuilding of the county along material, intellectual, political and moral lines. The spirit of enterprise which has been the dominant factor in the upbuilding of the middle west is manifest in his life and has made him a substantial and representative farmer of Chebanse township. | Brock, Charles Cosmo (I41130)

| 1769 | Biography He was born in 1697. Research Notes There is a record of a will of "John Maw of Epworth"[1], which appears to be this John Maw as he mentions his grandson John Henry Maw, but not his son John Maw who died shortly before the will was signed. It says[2]: "I give and bequeath unto George Lister of Eastoft --- in the County of Lincolnshire, Esquire and my grandson John Henry Maw land..and land in Hatfield, County of York In Trust.. "..my daughter Elizabeth." "..my grandsons Thomas Caister and John Caister." "..my grandson William Barnard." "..my daughter Mary" "..my brother Robert and unto his son Robert of Eastoft" "..my wife Ann.." "..my daughter Ann.." "..my daughter Mary Barnard.." "..my grandson William Barnard and his three sisters His wife is likely to be Ann Garnestone, with a marriage in 1732 at Kettlethorpe, Lincolnshire[3] (or Gomston[4] or Gamston[5]) The will mentions property in both Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, so it is not clear where he was born. There is a record of a John Maw christened on 16 February 1707 in Epworth, Lincolnshire, with parents John and Mary Maw[6], however this begs the question of why the person here is referred to as "John Maw 1" in the family tree records. Another baptism on 16b July 1711 in Haxey, Lincolnshire has the father's name Andrew Maw[7]. Sources ? | 1770 | Biography of Charles Gelder Charles Gelder was born about 1813, his baptism entry being missing from the Methodist registers. Like his father, he was a linen weaver. He married Sarah Pollard in 1836 at Darfield church & moved into a house in Laughton's Yard, where they spent the rest of their lives. They only had three children, unusual for those times, although Sarah appears to have had an illegitimate daughter, Mary, who was born a couple of years before she married. It is unclear who the father was. There is no baptism entry at Darfield church, but when she married, her father is stated to be "Charles Gelder (step-father)". He probably brought her up as his own child. His two eldest children were baptized at Darfield, but were no doubt baptized into the Methodist Church as well. His youngest son, John, was born in 1844 although his baptism entry has not been found. It is possible he was baptized in the Methodist New Connexion Chapel in Barnsley, but the registers for the years following 1837 have been lost or destroyed. Charles was obviously a staunch Methodist, like his parents, as his name appears on a poster advertising the laying of the foundation stone of the new chapel in 1866. Although Charles & Sarah only had two boys, both married & their offspring continued to live in Ardsley. In later years, Charles started working as a colliery labourer, work for hand loom weavers being harder to come by, as steam looms had been introduced, reducing the need for out workers. He died in Laughton's Yard in 1890, aged 77, five years later than Sarah. BURI: AGE 77y __DIRECT_LINE Direct line | Gelder, Charles (I4642)
