Herman J Mawe Dies at Age 76
Herman J Mawe, 76, for seventy years a resident of this county and one of its most successful farmers, died at his home in Manchester on Sunday, Feb. 25, 1951, after a protracted illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Delaware, of which he had been a member since childhood, the Rev. Theo. When he was six years of age he accompanied others of the family to America, the parents settling on a farm near the village of Delaware in this county. He was married at St. Paul's church there on Feb. 24, 1898, to Miss Mary Maurer of that vicinity and they at once engaged in farming north of the village. In 1904 they purchased the farm east of Manchester upon which they became residents of Manchester. On Feb. 24, 1948, Mr. and Mrs. Mawe were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding.

Mr. Mawe is survived by his devoted wife; three children, Mrs. Harold Miehe of Maynard, Iowa, William C Mawe of this city and Mrs. C. W. Baldwin of Waterloo; a brother, Carl A Mawe of Mt. Vernon, Washington; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Mrs. Fiene Grimm.

He was a devoted husband and father, a good neighbor and exemplary citizen, and at all times an active supporter of the church to which he belonged. His last illness was a great trial endured with fortitude and Christian resignation, lightened by welcome visits from old friends and neighbors who extend to the family sincere sympathy.

Mrs. C Mawe Sr. Dies Suddenly
Was One of the Early Settlers of Delaware Community Dies at Home of Daughter

Mrs. Carl Mawe Sr., for more than half a century a resident of the vicinity of Delaware, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fiena Grimm, in Earlville, on Sunday evening, Dec. 19, 1937, after an illness of very brief duration. She was past 85 years of age. Funeral services, in charge of the Rev. Wm. S. Schreiber, were held at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Delaware yesterday afternoon, burial being made in the cemetery north of that village.

Sophia F. Voelker was born in Ramelow, Germany, July 18, 1852, and while still a resident of that place was married on Jan. 14, 1875, to the late Carl Mawe, whose death occurred in 1931. In 1881 they came to this country and located on a farm near Delaware, where in 1925 they celebrated their golden wedding. Mrs. Mawe is survived by two sons H.J. Mawe, living east of Manchester, and C. A. Mawe of Waterloo; by the daughter at whose home she died; and by eight grandchildren. In childhood she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and remained true to the teachings of that church throughout a long and useful life. Her long residence at Delaware had endeared her to the community, and her death is sincerely deplored by the friends of many years there

    Mrs. C. Mawe Sr.
Mrs. C. Mawe., long time resident of Delaware, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Fiena Grimm, at Earlville, Sunday evening Dec. 19, 1937, following a very brief illness. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Delaware Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock, in charge of the Rev. W. S. Schreiber, pastor of the church. Burial will be made in the Evergreen cemetery (I think it is Pine View KH) north of Delaware.

Sophia F. Voelker, was born July 18, 1852, in Ramelow, Germany, grew to young womanhood there, and Jan. 14, 1875, was married to Carl Mawe. In 1881 they came to the United States and directly to Delaware county, locating near the village of Delaware. They were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in 1925. Mr. Mawe died in 1931.

Surviving are two sons, H.J. of this city, and C.A. of Waterloo; one daughter, Mrs. Grimm, of Earlville; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. As a child in the Fatherland Mrs. Mawe was baptized in the faith of the Lutheran church and remained true to that faith during her entire lifetime.

She was a devoted wife and mother, always solicitous for the welfare of her own. She had an abiding faith in the goodness of her Creator, and passed from this life into that fuller life fortified in that faith. Those who were attached to her in life by ties of natural affection and who mourn for her, have the profound sympathy of many friends in their sorrow.
