Birth: Aug. 26, 1940 Ogden, Weber County, Utah, USA
Death: Dec. 2, 2010
Margaret "Maggie" Phelps Vaughn passed away peacefully on December 2nd, 2010 at her home in Riverdale, UT.
She was born in Ogden, UT on August 26, 1940, to George and Stella Phelps.
Margaret graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1957 and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education, with a minor in Journalism from Weber State University.
She found her true calling as a talented and published writer and an accomplished reporter including writing for True Romance magazines and interviewing Johnny Cash. Her diversity and success in writing and journalism landed her jobs covering court cases and working for UPI (wire service), "The Deseret News" and the "Ogden Standard Examiner." After retiring, Maggie continued writing part time and shared her passion with students at a local writing workshop.
After high school, Maggie married Gary Baur and from this union they were blessed with two beautiful children, a son, Rick Baur, and a daughter, Dana Baur.
Margaret later married Bob Sowerby and they shared ten years together before Bob passed away.
Margaret and David Wayne Vaughn reunited 40 years after high school and were married on November 2nd, 2005. Together they shared a great deal of common interests, including their democratic political views and a love for the theater and writing. They collaborated their creative talents and wrote the play "Loose Cannon." Maggie took her zest for life and vibrant personality to the stage in a gallery theater and starred in the leading role in "The house where the fairies danced." She wrote and played a supporting role in "We need a little Christmas."
Margaret is survived by her husband, David; her son, Rick; daughter, Dana; two stepdaughters, Holy and Melony (Aric); grandchildren: Chase 22, Kristopher 22, Michael 20, McKenna 15 and Zigg 8; four stepgrandchildren: Devyn 17, Olivia 10, Samantha 13 and Aspen 5; four sisters: Arlene (Ed), her twin sister, Mary (Gary), Karma (Keith) and Pat (Jack); one brother, Jack; several loved nieces and nephews; and extended family members and close friends.
Maggie was grateful to share her life with her family and close friends, especially Barbara Bernstein, whom she shared many fond stories with.
Maggie always had a great story to tell and could make any event fun and entertaining with her quick wit and great sense of humor.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, George and Stella Phelps, and her grandparents.
At Margaret's request she will be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held in Maggie's honor on Thursday, December 9th at the Community of Christ Church at 6:00pm at 848 E. 7th St in Ogden, UT. Family and Friends are welcome to call, starting at 5pm.
