  In 1901 census, the family were living at 38 Links, Buckhaven. David (35, coalminer) and Agnes emigrated in 1897 to Outtrim, Victoria, along with David Watters Cook, Alison Smith Cook and the rest of the large family. Agnes and David must have returned to Scotland shortly afterwards, since they were listed in the census of 1901. A Leven newspaper in 1926 noted that 'a son John, and a daughter, Mrs Agnes McLean, remain living links with [the Cook family] over the ocean'.
